- To hold in your appetite all day long, eat sweet potatoes for breakfast.
- Bruises: If you shut your finger or foot in a door or bruise it in any way, put it in water as hot as you can bear, then in cold water and hot alternately.
- Sleepless nights? Drink a glass of warm milk with one teaspoon of honey dissolved in it half an hour before bedtime.
- Fish bone in throat: If fish bone sticks in the throat, do not try to remove it with a finger. Give fresh bread or ugali to eat in large pieces. If this is not effective give an emetic when the bone should be ejected with bread. Should the bone still remain unmoved, try sucking a lemon. The juice gives relief and in time dissolves the bone. It may, however, be necessary to get medical assistance.
- Have you run out of antiperspirant? Rub your armpits with apple cider vinegar, or apply a dusting of bicarbonate of soda for day freshness.
- Burns: Apply linen rags soaked in soda bicarbonate solutions.
- To sooth a stomachache after eating certain foods, drink a cup of water with 1 tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda. this helps to neutralize the acidity.
- Warts: Apply the wart two or three times a day with a damp piece of washing soda.
- Toothache: A pinch of alum, pushed into the cavity, will often give relief, as will a piece of cotton wool dipped in spirit or in oil of cloves.
- To brighten up dull-looking eyes instantly, place a drop of clear black tea into each eye.
- Sting: Ants. Some ants sting by injecting formic acid; counteract by applying an alkali, bicarbonate of soda, ammonia, soap or anti-histamine ointment. Bees. Remove sting if possible, then apply methylated spirit or bicarbonate of soda. Caterpillars, centipedes, hornets and spiders. Apply ammonia, bicarbonate of soda or anti-histamine ointment. Wasps. Apply vinegar.
- To relieve a headache instantly, dip your feet in a bucket of ice and water.
- Prickly heat: Apply a thick paste of milk and bicarbonate of soda at night and dust well with powder, or calamine lotion, through the day.
- To stop hiccups immediately, swallow half a spoon of sugar. You may also try breathing very slowly with your nose and out through your mouth until you get relief. Holding your breath for a full minute also drives out hiccups.
- Sore lips:When the lips of a fever patient begin to get cracked and sore, apply equal parts of lemon juice and glycerin with a small piece of cotton cloth.This proves most soothing.
- To heal a burn quickly, apply plain yogurt to the area several times.
- Nairobi eye (bite from Nairobi Fly): Milk, calamine lotion or soda bicarbonate applied at once will give relief.
- Ringworm: Paint the spot with iodine daily until the ringworm disappears. Ordinary ink has been known to be an equally good cure.
- Scalds: Spread scald immediately with dry bicarbonate of soda and cover with cloth, leaving on until heat is entirely extracted. If it is impossible to apply soda immediately, a solution must then be made with bicarbonate of soda and water ( 1 teaspoon ) or salt water and the scalded part of the body immersed in it.
- Mouth-Wash: During an illness when the breath might smell, add 2 teaspoonfuls of lemon juice or 1/2 teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda, to a tumbler of water.
- Anemia: Mixed juices of leafy vegetables, juice of alfalfa and beet-root, cabbage, bitter gourd, apricot and grapes are useful in this diseases.
- Diabetes: Juices of rose apple, tomato, cucumber, lemon, bitter gourd, carrot, spinach, cabbage and french beans.
- To remove a small thin sharp bit of wood, metal or glass lodged in the skin, place a piece of sticky tape over it, and pull it out. If this fails, place the affected area in a bowl of icy water to reduce the swelling, and then use tweezers to extract the splinter.
- Cholera: Juice of bee lee fruit mixed with juices of mint, garlic and onions should be taken with warm water. Coconut water can also be used.
- Bronchitis: Take warm water with ginger, honey and lemon-juice in the morning or warm water with garlic and onion juices. Also you may take juices of radish, carrot beet-root and cucumber. Avoid smoking.
- Cough: Take warm water mixed with honey and lemon juice in the morning. Also take a glassful of carrot juice added with a tablespoon each of garlic and onion.
- Acne:Take a mixture of carrot and spinach juices. Take a mixture of juices of potato, beet-root, cucumber and grapes. Water melon and papaya juice may also be taken. Massage papaya or potato juice on the face, vapor bath is advantageous. Do not allow greasiness to remain on the face. Avoid cosmetics.
- To keep your breath fresh at all times, carry a small packet of cinnamon, cloves or fennel seeds to chew on at times.
- Asthma:Take mixed juices of carrot, beet-root and cabbage. Take a mixture of juices of leafy vegetables or a mixture of juices of potato and apple. Besides, garlic and papaya juices can also be taken.
- To calm an aching tooth, dip a cotton swab in real vanilla, and rub it on the injuring tooth and gum. the pain vanishes, it's advisable you visit your dentist for a check-up.
- Cold: Lemonade warm water should be taken. Juices of ginger, orange, carrots, radish, garlic. Water vapor is also useful.
- To prevent the urgency of urination before a long journey, take 1/2 a cup of warm water with half a spoon of salt dissolved in it before the journey.
- Constipation:Raw whole fruits and vegetables are as beneficial as their juices. Proper exercises should be done. One should form regular habits of emptying his or her bowels. Juice mixture of spinach and carrot or a mixture of potato, cucumber and apple. You can also take a mixture of fig, beelee, guava and orange.
